Abstract:

This report is written from an historical perspective. We leave the “what’s news today” and the latest “gossip- talk” to the on-line news media. Instead, we examine the early mission of SUN Micro and how the company has evolved through both boom and bust phases of the high tech economy based on an open source, open system model. We also attempt to capture comments made on the state of innovation, H1b visas, outsourcing, and off shoring. Editorial comments and questions are in italics. Finally, we offer a personal assessment of Sun and the points covered in the panel session.
