Virtualizing the CPE, vE-CPE Benefits for Hosted Service Providers


Traditionally, CPEs (Customer Premises Equipment) have been a standard fixture in enterprise communications. CPE devices are used to connect enterprises with service providers, delivering functionality such as router, firewall, WAN optimization, media gateway and session border controller (SBC). Because of specific processing requirements, CPEs were implemented on proprietary, discrete, hardware appliances, making them expensive to purchase and maintain.
