2013 Guide to Network Virtualization & SDN

  • Part 4: Planning for Network Virtualization and SDN
  • Jim Metzler, Ashton Metzler & Associates
  • Distinguished Research Fellow and Co-Founder
  • Webtorials Analyst Division

The primary goal of the 2013 Guide to Network Virtualization & SDN (The Guide) is to eliminate the hype and confusion that currently surrounds both software defined networking (SDN) and Network Virtualization (NV).

The Guide will be published both in its entirety and in a serial fashion. This is the fourth of the serial publications. The first publication focused on NV; the second publication focused on SDN; and the third publication focused on the NV and SDN ecosystem . The goal of this publication is to create an outline that IT organizations can use to plan for the adoption of SDN and NV. It presents recent market research that quantifies how IT organizations are approaching analyzing and implementing NV and SDN; the plans that IT organizations have for open source solutions and open protocols; and the expectations that IT organizations have for how broadly they will implement NV and SDN.
