Webtorials is temporarily suspending the publication of new materials until later this week due to the current and expected impact of Hurricane Sandy.

The unprecedented size of this storm means that virtually all companies in the Eastern US will feel the impact, and many will probably be in Disaster Recovery mode.  Consequently, this is not a time when IT professionals will be able to turn their attention to educational issues.

As a resource to our readership, this notice is also being published as a TechNote so that if our community feels a need, there is a place to share technical and non-technical information about the impact of this storm.  If you have a particular concern that you would like to discuss in dealing with this storm, please post comments in this TechNote's space.

Regardless of your religious beliefs (or lack of the same), please join us in asking for the comfort and safety of those in the path of danger, and especially to offer thanks for the relief workers who will be putting themselves in harm's way for the sake of others.

Finally, since Webtorials is offered at no charge to our readership, let me ask you to consider making a contribution to a relief agency of your choice.

In addition to the relief efforts that are already under way and will continue in the US, Hurricane Sandy has already been a humanitarian disaster in other countries.  In the past, I have mentioned that there is an orphanage in Haiti that I feel is a particularly worthy cause.  Please see the information below.

IMPORTANT UPDATE:

STORM DAMAGES HOUSING AT ESPWA

CNN reports Hurricane Sandy packs a punch as a Category 2 Hurricane. Heavy flooding and winds peeled roofing off of children's housing at Pwoje Espwa Sud.

Hurricane Sandy strengthened rapidly with the surrounding warm waters as it slammed the Southern coast of Haiti causing extensive damage. Pwoje Espwa Sud was not spared the storm nor the damage.

"Thank God no one was hurt!" said Ben Abiles, Executive Director for Free the Kids after receiving word from Deacon Peter Faford on the ground at Espwa.  "The storm has downed trees, power lines, and caused flooding everywhere you look," said Deacon Faford.

After an inspection of the North Village today, we received news that one of our homes had lost its roof and a number of other homes in the village need significant work.  One water tank was lost as well as many pipes.

PLEASE HELP IN OUR EFFORTS TO RESTORE THE VILLAGE!
